AJ's interview!

Today Bolts of Thunder has the honor of presenting AJ Neuenswander's interview. If you don't know who AJ is, then turn on Bolts of Thunder 3 right now and set up a little bucket under your chin to catch all the drool that will fall out of your mouth as you stare wide-eyed and open-mouthed in amazement and the stuff this guy can do. Then consider yourself acquainted with AJ. Now I don't have to be the first to tell you, but the demographics of Bolts of Thunder are definitely changing as more youngsters join ranks and carry the Bolts of Thunder banner high above head. So our next video will have quite a few faces that you've never seen before and full parts from others that have only made appearances in the past. But I'm very happy to say that AJ, who killed it and pretty much made the last video what it is, is going to be paving the way for our 4th video as well. We've been filming for the past month or so, and he's already come out with some solid tricks that I've never seen done before. For real, when he landed it, it was the first time, in person at least, that I've ever seen that trick. So you should anxiously be looking forward to what Bolts of Thunder has to offer in its next project, especially from AJ. And just before I end, I will say that there are two things that are really cool about AJ (there are more than 2, but I want to draw attention to 2): First, when he goes for a trick, he really goes for it. He's a lot braver than I am when it comes to flipping his board around and committing to land on it once again. Second thing, AJ is a really genuine, cool guy. When he's your friend, then he's your friend. I meet a lot of people that you skate with for a couple weeks or months then never see or hear from them again when you finish your project, the weather gets cold, or whatever. But AJ's a good friend and a super fun guy to skate or hang out with, regardless of the weather. So with no further adew, I give you the AJ Newenswanderer interview, or however you spell his last name...

(MrBoltsofThunder) First off, how do you spell your last name? I seriously thought I had spelled it correctly in the last video and then was a little embarrassed to find out I blew it.

(AJ) haha it’s neuenswander

What are your stats? You know, what's your age, height, how much you can bench press, etc.?

ok so i’m 23 years old, i’m 5 feet 9 inches, and i drive a white 2004 sunfire that grandpa hooked me up with.  I ride a size 8 deck and i can’t switch heelflip.  been skating everyday since my 8th birthday.  introduced to bolts of thunder in late 2011 i think.  applying to ot school this summer.  proud cat dad.  haven’t bench pressed anything since my 8th grade PE class.

Speaking of stats, I'm thinking of video games now. What class of hero would you be if you were a character in a video game (like knight, mage, elf, monk. you know, the usual?) And what would be your special powers?

oh this one is easy.  I would be yoshi cause i would have a crazy long tongue and i could just eat whatever i wanted without getting fat.  plus if i ate purple stuff i could fly for a limited time.

Another video game question. If you were a character in Mortal Kombat, what would be your name, and what would be your fatality move? I've always been impartial to scorpion's ripping off people's heads, but that's just me...

i dunno. i don’t really know mortal combat but if i could be yoshi i would. you can swallow people and poop them out!

Tell me about Gary

Gary was born on st patricks day of 2012.  hes a cute little guy and a pretty kool kat!  He’s got like 15 fake mice that he doesn’t really like to play with and he doesn’t like his sweater that hayley got him either.  I’m trying to get him psyched for bolts of thunder 4 so he can have a part but this is the best i’ve gotten from him so far.

Now we're going to go into the therapy session of the interview. The psycho-analyses part, if you will. When I say a word or phrase, I want you to say the first thing that comes into your mind. This can be a one word answer, a short answer, or whatever you feel like saying. Ready? First word/phrase:

Mongo

Me and everyone in the dgk video still do it when we ride switch. its awesome.  oh yeah and hayley always calls all the longboarders out at byu who ride mongo.

Provo skatepark on Geneva road

somebody’s eagle scout project?

Ben Gringeri

Ben is so strong! He’s seriously the man.  He skates with no fear and he is always having fun.  pop shuv tail grab on locks.

fakie back tail to crooked grind, coming out regular or fakie, your choice

woah this sounds crazy and dangerous and pretty impossible.

cracks

bad and play with your mind.

crack

bad and plays with your mind.

smack

like as in smacking someone? don't fight, kids.

sugar smacks

yummmmmm

lucky charms

pretty good.

cupcakes

my wife is a cupcake baker for the cocoa bean cupcake cafe. its awesome she loves it.

Now let's talk Bolts of Thunder talk. What are your 3 favorite tricks from your part in the last video?

varial heel flip the baseball field gap probably my favorite.  fakie fakie manual 360 flip at lions and kickflip front feeble the rail down the orem gap.

What are your 3 favorite tricks from the video but not in your part (notice that I did not even give you the option of choosing between yours or other people's tricks. I didn't want you to be in a tight spot of others thinking you are prideful if you choose your tricks over theirs, so I separated the two categories. I won't even put you in a tight spot, AJ. I won't do it.)?

ben- kickflip back board the rail down orem gap
jon- pop shuv hippie jump the chain
matt- front shuv the wallride line

Now that filming for our next video is underway, what are some tricks, people, or animation you're excited to see in the next video?

yeah dude animation! I wanna be made into one of those bolts of thunder characters! that never happened for the last video.  as far as people all i ever wanna do is watch zak smith destroy everything everyday all the time forever and ever.  but seriously i’m excited to see everyone, its pretty crazy how much the bar is being raised.

What would you like to see in the next video? Let me rephrase the question. If we didn't rule Bolts of Thunder with such an iron fist, and you were in charge of editing said video, what kind of a video would it be?

360 flips in every line and lots of ramped slow mo haha

Not that I want to spoil the fun and anticipation for any of our readers, but are there any tricks or spots that you have in mind for the next video?

dude honestly watch out for this video.  everyone is going HAM!  kenzo is skating rails taller than his head, zak can officially do any trick he wants to, jon is doing taildrop NBD’s...who knows, rumor has it i might do a line riding switch without a mongo push.  But for reals, the rails are bigger, the tricks are more tech, knees are bloody, perma-hand bruises, pants are getting ripped, and i even made chad miss his date the other day trying to get a trick.

Are there any "big fish" tricks that you wanted to get in the last video but either broke the line and got away or just didn't even bite at all? Are there any tricks you wanted to get last year that you're planning on getting this year?

I never got the kickflip front board on the south provo (see pictures above), but they redid the landing to that spot now so i don't know if its gonna be possible.  but there’s a cool new spot here in provo that i might be able to do it on.

Thanks for your time and sharing some insights. Are there any last words of wisdom you would like to leave our readers?

Jus keep skating forever!  it’s the greatest thing ever invented.
